Pharmaceutical company Ferrer and the European Society of Pulmonary Hypertension (PHA Europe) have joined forces in the PHantasticals campaign to educate people about pulmonary hypertension (PH), a progressive disease that reduces blood flow and increases pressure in the pulmonary arteries, affecting the heart and lungs. Some forms are rare and can progress rapidly, as well as being debilitating and fatal.

BARCELONA, SPAIN, May 5, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – In conjunction with the World Pulmonary Hypertension Day (PH), which is celebrated on May 5 every year, Ferrer and the European Society of Pulmonary Hypertension – PHA Europe launched the PHantasticals awareness campaign, It is an initiative that seeks to raise public awareness about rare and chronic diseases in the field of pulmonary vascular and interstitial lung diseases, and later also in the field of neurological disorders.

The campaign features PHantasticals, which are rare, unusual, unique, and, of course, fantastical fantasy creatures. In addition to the characteristics that make them so special, they all have one more thing in common: they are strong, resilient and often go unnoticed. Just like people with rare, severe and debilitating vascular and interstitial lung diseases.

In this first phase of the campaign, the mermaids Phoebe, PAHola, and PHILipa, three mythical creatures that help understand what pulmonary hypertension (PH) is and what are the main differences between two of its groups, appear: Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) and Hypertension Pulmonary hematopoiesis due to interstitial lung disease (PH-ILD). Through the website, mermaids explain the main aspects of the three diseases, focusing on their low prevalence, symptoms, diagnosis and possible treatments.

In addition, the site includes statements and testimonials from people with the disease, so that the general public understands the difficulties and challenges they face daily, as well as health systems. One example is that most people take the ability to breathe for granted, while people living with PH do not.

to me Gergeli Miszarosproject manager at PHA Europe,”We need awareness campaigns targeting primary care professionals to link the diagnosis of patients with pulmonary hypertension, but campaigns directed at the general population are also necessary to improve acceptance and understanding of this sometimes invisible disease.

The project is part of Ferrer’s mission to provide significant differential value to people with critical illnesses. With the knowledge and experience gained, Ferrer’s efforts are focused on product development in two main treatment areas: pulmonary vascular disease, interstitial lung disease and neurological disorders.

to me Oscar Perez, Head of Marketing, Market Access and Business Development Officer at Ferrer,”This campaign is very much in line with our goal of making a positive impact in the community. People with some forms of pulmonary hypertension often go unnoticed due to a widespread lack of awareness of these diseases. Through projects like Phantasticals, we aim to help spread the word about pulmonary hypertension and its subtypes, as well as demonstrate our unwavering commitment to people with these diseases and their families.. “

Engagement campaign on Instagram

To take part in the campaign and to help raise awareness of pulmonary hypertension, an Instagram filter with the international symbol of the disease, blue lips, has also been created. For each photo posted on social networks, including the hashtags #WeBelieveInPHantasticals, #WorldPHDay and #TogetherStronger, one euro will be donated to PHA Europe, one of the patient associations supporting the initiative, with a maximum of €5,000.

The campaign focused on pulmonary hypertension will continue throughout May, both on the website and through social networks. Later, in Phase Two of Phantasticals, scheduled for June, other fantastic beings will appear to help raise awareness of neurological disorders.
