Twins sign Aaron Sanchez and Tyler Thornberg mansion deals

The twins agreed to a minor league contract with the beginning Aaron Sanchezreports Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press (Twitter link). Also signed Minnesota Savior Tyler Thornberg to an unlisted deal over the weekend, and set it on Triple-A St. Paul.

Sanchez began the season at the Nationals after signing a minor league contract in March. The year opened in Triple-A but was selected for majors in mid-April. The 29-year-old started in seven matches with the Nats, but was set with an 8.33 ERA as he netted 11.3% of the opposing hitters. Sanchez threw a fair amount of hits and drove more than half of the hitters against him, but he surrendered six home runs in 31 1/3 innings as he struggled to miss the bat.

Washington named Sanchez on assignment and removed him from its roster late last month, at which time he was elected free agency. The Southern California native once seemed like a potential rotational building block for the Blue Jays, as he appeared in the All-Star and ERA Major League playoff highlights in 2016. Sanchez has taken on a leading role in the past few seasons, though, particularly since He underwent shoulder surgery in September 2019. After working in the mid-1990s at the peak, he averaged north of 90 mph on fastball with the Giants last year and 92 mph for the Washington Walkers this season.

Thornburg also spent time in the NL East this year, starting the season with the Braves. The Atlanta veteran signed a $900,000 contract during spring training, opening the season in the Big League. Thornburg allowed six runs (four earned) in 9 1/3 tires, and wrote off ten while issuing five walks. His early-season pace was well in line with professional standards, but Thornburg’s swing-and-fail rate disappointed, and the Braves cost him the lower-impact business. Atlanta hired him for appointment and released him in late May.

The 33-year-old has appeared in parts of nine MLB seasons, fitting in for the Brewers, Red Sox, Reds and Braves. Thornburg was quietly one of the league’s most effective late-game weapons in Milwaukee between 2013 and 2016, but he struggled with injuries and poor performance in the ensuing years. Paul yesterday, Thornburg will try to make its way to the Minnesota Arena that has been in the middle of the group so far.

Rotation was generally expected to be a weak point, but the twins’ starters enter on Monday with a seventh collective ERA low (3.54). That’s a big reason the club is currently sitting 32-24 and four and a half games away from the competition at AL Central, but they’ve been hit by a string of injuries over the past month.

Minnesota lost another member by rotation this evening, declaring that the right hand Billy Uber He was placed on the casualty list for 15 days, retrospectively to June 3, due to a strain in the right thigh. This is the same problem that actually resulted in the IL mission earlier in the season, being shelved for the first three weeks of May.

Hubert returned to the hill on May 22, and has started three times since his return. The 26-year-old has allowed nine runs in 14 runs during that time, and it appears he will need more time to recover. Uber secured the season-opening rotation spot with a solid 4.19 ERA showing across 20 starts as a rookie last year. He only allowed eight runs in 19 2/3 runs over four outings in April before his first assignment in IL.

Minnesota also without Joe Ryan – Currently on COVID-19 IL – and Sony Graywho hit IL late last week due to my chest strain. Josh Winder Out since mid-May from dealing with a shoulder collision, the team lost Chris Badack For Tommy John’s surgery last month. Dylan BundyAnd the Devin Smeltzer And the Chris Archer are rotation locks, with Cole Sands Perhaps the highest depth option on the 40-man list. horizons Jordan Palazovich And the Ronnie Henriquez They are already in the 40’s and starting matches for St Paul, but both have struggled really hard this year. Sanchez joins Chi Chi Gonzalez As depth options are experienced and not listed with Saints.

In additional procedural moves, the twins brought back four players – Max KeplerAnd the Emilio BaganAnd the Trevor Miguel And the Caleb Tilbar – From the banned list. cotton jerseys And the Ian Hamilton, both of whom were shortlisted as designated COVID-19 substitutes ahead of the club’s weekend series in Toronto, have been removed from 40 players and sent back to St Paul. This also applies to Gonzalez, who started Friday’s game but returned at the weekend.
