Toyota Corolla Cross is an attractive new option for the small crossover SUV segment. However, it faces stiff competition from other models, such as the Subaru Crosstrek. Here are four reasons to buy a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek, not a 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross.
The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek offers a more powerful engine than the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross
The number one reason to buy a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek instead of a 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross is because the Crosstrek offers a more powerful engine than the Corolla Cross. The Crosstrek has a range of engine options, the most powerful of which is the 2.5-liter horizontally opposed 4-cylinder boxer engine. It produces 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque.
By comparison, all Corolla crossover models have a weaker 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It produces 169 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque.
The Crosstrek’s more powerful engine translates to faster acceleration. Its 0-60 mph time is 7.5 seconds, compared to 9.2 seconds for the Corolla Cross.
Unlike the 2022 Corolla Cross, the 2022 Crosstrek offers a hybrid model
The second reason to buy the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek instead of the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross is that unlike the Corolla Cross, the Crosstrek offers a hybrid model. Also, the Crosstrek Hybrid is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), with the ability to drive using electric power only for up to approximately 17 miles.
For efficiency, the Crosstrek Hybrid gets an estimated fuel economy of 35 mpg combined in hybrid mode and 90 mpg in electric mode. By comparison, the Corolla Cross has a fuel economy of 32 mpg combined.
Subaru Crosstrek offers more passenger space than Toyota Corolla Cross
The third reason to buy a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek instead of a 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross is that the Crosstrek offers more passenger space than the Corolla Cross. Both SUVs and crossovers can accommodate up to five passengers. However, the Crosstrek’s total passenger volume is 100.9 cubic feet, compared to 88.4 cubic feet in the Corolla Cross.
More passenger space makes the biggest difference to the rear seats. The Crosstrek has 36.5 cubic feet of rear legroom, compared to 32.0 inches for the Corolla Cross.
