The “Year of Health” by Rebel Wilson was a huge success. The Pitch Perfect actress dropped nearly 80 pounds and achieved the desired weight. But most importantly, she seems satisfied with her new lifestyle.

A quick look through her Instagram reveals that she’s been filming her first year for Netflix, hosting BAFTAs, traveling extensively, and flaunting her body “on Instagram unabashedly,” she told People.

The 42-year-old star has been candid about her weight loss journey, but how did she achieve it? Here’s everything you need to know:

Rebel Wilson’s Weight Loss Journey

Rebel has declared 2020 to be the “Year of Health,” promising followers that she will focus on fitness and working toward her target weight of 165 pounds. She relied on a combination of exercise and a nutritious diet to make it happen.

Rebel originally shared her plans in January 2020 on her Instagram account. She simply started by increasing her gait and making some reasonable eating choices. “I put on my tracksuit and went for a walk,” she added. “Right now I’m purposefully wetting the couch and trying to avoid sweets and junk food, which is going to be hard after the holidays I just had, but I’ll do it!”

She said in an update at the end of August.

Rebel revealed on Instagram that she was within three kilograms (about six pounds) of her goal weight, along with a shot of her showing her progress and beautiful looks while hiking. (By the way, her trainer strongly believes in taking progress photos, but more on that later.)

Rebel has been booked and busy with a number of errands ahead of her healthy weight loss journey. The actress jumped to prominence in 2011 after she starred in the Academy Award-nominated comedy The Bridesmaids. Rebel had a modest and supporting role in the picture, but she made a huge impact on the audience. Rebel’s reputation rose to new heights by 2012 when she was cast as Fat Amy in the movie Pitch Perfect. She will return in the sequel and third part of the film.

Rebel continued to land huge parts showing off her comedic abilities. She is best known for her roles in films including How To Be Single, The Hustle and Isn’t It Romantic. Rebel’s focus shifted from physical humor to a more serious approach to her health and career as her reputation developed. Rebel began documenting her workouts, trips to Australia and Los Angeles, weight loss goals, and much more in 2020, opening up and giving her fans a whole new, honest side of herself. Rebel needed to step back and focus on her physical and mental transformation.

So how does a Rebel exercise?

Rebel trained seven days a week with coach Juno Castano. (She’s serious about working hard.) The actress revealed a challenging new technique for her routine: tire flipping.

Rebel said the following in a video of her fitness session: “Start the week off right! Watch chrishemsworth & liamhemsworth Australia’s newest champion in action as he lifts it up.”

Stairs races and rope fights are part of her workout. Her trainer seems to be a huge supporter of high intensity workouts.

These days, she makes an effort to consume more protein in her diet

She mentioned that she eats a high-protein diet, too. Rebel revealed to people that she was consuming 3,000 calories each day.

“Before that I was probably eating 3,000 calories most days, and because they were naturally carbs, I was still hungry,” she said. “So, I really changed to a high protein diet, which is a challenge because I wasn’t used to eating a lot of meat. I eat fish, salmon and chicken breasts.”

However, she credits the coronavirus pandemic with making her slow down and change her “bad habits” for the better. This allowed her to focus more on her general health and emotional eating issues.

“I definitely think with slowing down, it helped me,” she says. “I think I was an emotional eater, and overeat sometimes because I wasn’t loving myself enough either. And it’s about self-esteem and self-love.”

On the other hand, Rebel is not disadvantaged.

“I’m just trying to achieve overall balance, overall healthy balance,” she said. “I have this state of being, and it’s not my quote, but I say ‘nothing is forbidden.’ We’ll say, ‘Should we get the In-N-Out burger?’ And I’m like, ‘Nothing forbidden.'” I can go in there, I might eat. Half of what I’ve been eating before. You know? And I’ll have a burger, a few fries, and then you’ll feel fine.”

Rebel opens up with fans about her weight loss goals

In a now-deleted Instagram post from July, she revealed her exact weight loss goals: “I’ll be honest with you guys – with the ‘Year of Health’ mission I’m trying to reach 75kg and I’m professionally trying to start making one of my films before the end of the year! Both of these Both take daily effort and there are constant setbacks – but I work x hard.” (FYI: 75 kg roughly 165 lbs.)

Converting weight loss into Rebel Wilson

When Rebel started losing weight, she noticed a huge difference in how people treated her. “I think the really interesting thing is the way other people treat you,” the actress said on Australian radio show The Morning Team with Hughesy, Ed and Erin on January 27. “Sometimes when you’re older, people don’t necessarily look at you twice,” Rebel continued. “Now that I’m in great shape, people are offering to move my groceries to the car and keep the doors open for you.”
