Johnny Depp’s lawyer claims that a video taken by Marilyn Manson “destroyed” Amber Heard’s allegations that she was abused by her ex-husband.
The testimony of Adam Waldman, who has worked in and out of Depp’s legal team since October 2016, was shown in court Thursday during a high-stakes libel trial of the ex-couple in Fairfax, Virginia.
Mr. Waldman, who was at the center of Heard’s counterclaim after he called her abuse allegations “fake” and a “hoax,” gave video testimony in February after being summoned by the Aquaman actress’s legal team.
Waldman testified that he believed the photos and videos sent to him by rock star Manson help him refute Ms Heard’s accusations about an alleged incident of violence that occurred on Thanksgiving 2013.
“For that incident – Thanksgiving, probably 2013 – I think those videos and photos decimated her claim,” he testified.
Waldman appears to be referring to a video from Thanksgiving 2015 which was shown during Depp’s defamation case in the UK against the sun Newspaper – lost.
In the UK case, the court was shown footage of Mr Manson and David Heard’s father and Mr Deb Jack’s son joking at the meeting in Los Angeles.
In the video, Manson joked that Mrs. Heard’s father was a “beast” before David started chasing Jack.
Depp’s legal team in the UK case claimed the video showed a “happy family event” – thus casting doubt on Ms Heard’s account of the events of that day.
Mrs. Heard alleged that the couple got into an argument that day, in which Mr. Depp tore her shirt, threw her across the room and threw a glass at her.
Mr. Waldman also cited several witnesses who he said testified that they saw no injuries on Ms. Heard’s face between 21 and 27 May 2016.
Ms. Heard claims that Mr. Depp abused her violently on May 21. The incident came two days before she filed for divorce and six days before she filed against domestic violence.
Waldman had previously accused Ms Heard of faking the assault scene that night, saying in a 2020 media interview that it “was an ambush, a hoax”.
Mr. Waldman’s comments accusing Ms. Heard of orchestrating a “hoax” are the focus of Ms. Heard’s counterclaim in the libel trial.
Depp is suing his ex-wife for defamation over an opinion piece she wrote in 2018. Washington Post She described herself as a “public figure representing domestic violence”.
The Pirates of the Caribbean The actor’s name is not mentioned in the article titled “I spoke out against sexual violence – and faced the wrath of our culture. That must change.”
However, Mr. Depp claims that this incorrectly indicates that he is a domestic abuser – which he vehemently denies – and that it has left him struggling to land roles in Hollywood. He’s suing 50 million dollars.
Ms Heard opposed the $100 million, accusing Mr. Depp of orchestrating a “slander campaign” against her and describing his lawsuit as a continuation of “abuse and harassment”.
The counter-libel suit was initially filed over Mr Waldman’s comments accusing Mrs. Heard of lying about the domestic violence she said she had suffered at the hands of Mr Depp, calling her accusations a “mock”, a “sexual violence hoax” and an “ambush”.
Waldman was reportedly later dropped from Mr. Depp’s legal team, but is now back to work as his counsel.
Mr. Manson was mentioned earlier in the defamation trial, when Mr. Depp testified that he used drugs with a rock star.
A representative of Pirates told the court that he once gave Mr. Manson a pill so that he would stop talking so much.
It comes as Manson is also suing his ex-girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood for defamation after she accused him of raping and abusing her during their relationship.
Ms. Wood made the allegations last year. Then several other women came forward with these accusations.
