The second half is underway
46′ Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
The ball rolls back on Tyneside. Arsenal certainly couldn’t be worse than in the first half, right?

Arsenal’s review is very honest
Meanwhile, one of our resident Arsenal reporters has given his opinion on what he’s seen of men wearing yellow so far.
My perception on Earth: That was a bad half. Arsenal just needed the break between the two halves and hopefully they can take control after the first half. Only one winner at the moment.

Praise for ‘dominant’ Newcastle
George summed up that first half perfectly and it’s clear he was a huge fan of what he saw from the Magpies. It is definitely not the only one!

Without goals in the first half at St James’ Park
HT Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
The free kick with the head of the first man. Well, the only saving grace for Arteta after that first half is that they are still up to par. The other positive thing is that they couldn’t be much worse after the break.
As for Newcastle, they were excellent considering they had so little left to play for. They showed desire and effort in spades but just needed more quality in the final third.

1 minute added time
45′ Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
The fourth official indicated that there would be at least one minute of injury time. Arsenal have a free kick in a decent area…

44′ Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
The acquisition stats have just come out and it shows that Arsenal have only 30% of the possession! Not what you need in a must-have away from home game.

Cedric’s injured Tomiyasu has been replaced
40′ Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
A rare break in play as Tomiyasu receives treatment and is eventually replaced by Cedric who won’t be happy to be thrown into the mix against the very lively Saint-Maximin.
As you’ll see, this is the Wilson dental problem I was referring to earlier. Does anyone know a decent dentist in Tyneside?

Big drop off the Ramsdale to deny St. Maximin
38′ Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
What was I just saying about Newcastle not doing anything? St. Maximin is skipping Tomiyasu, it seems, for the hundredth time already this evening and blasting a low effort towards the nearby Ramsdale Center. The England international was on par with that and made it behind a corner kick.
Tomiyasu has now fallen, and I’m not sure if he was taken a break from his skin by Saint-Maximin or if he was actually injured. (Note: the latter)

Arsenal still haven’t seen
35′ Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
Newcastle still dominate the proceedings even though they haven’t created anything meaningful yet. Saka’s chance saved by Berne remains the best view of the two teams’ goals to date.

Bad injury to Wilson
29′ Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
Worry not too much with the headline of this post, Newcastle fans. Wilson is still very much on his feet, but it appears he has had one of his front teeth slipped after – I imagine – challenged with a header into the last corner of Arsenal. ouch.

won’t be happy yet
27′ Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
Given the importance of tonight’s match, Arteta will not be at all happy with what he saw in the first 26 minutes. His team has been the second best after almost every ball, and while they are starting to develop in the game, they still need to get a clear shot.

Byrne makes critical mass to deny Saka
22′ Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
Finally, Arsenal’s attack came to life and could have been the opening goal of the match. Saka played one and two goals on the edge of the penalty area and curled the ball into the bottom corner of Dubravka’s goal but Byrne was positioned correctly to block it behind for a corner kick.

Tense start for Ramsdale
18′ Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
Ramsdale has looked really shaky against Arsenal so far. I mentioned that Almiron nearly slipped the ball off his toes a few moments ago and was just called up to tackle a low cross that veered into the middle of the six-yard area. Fortunately, White was on hand to remove the danger.

Newcastle around Arsenal so far
13 ‘Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
If you did not know, you would definitely not guess which team is chasing for a place in the Champions League this evening. Arsenal have been touched by the occasion so far and they desperately need to find their rhythm or else they will find themselves a target behind them before they know it.

Ramsdale almost ends up in hot water!
9′ Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
We’ve seen goalkeeper fouls with the ball at his feet a few times already this season and Ramsdale almost gave Newcastle an early lead.
He showed a lot of the ball to Almiron who touched the ball but couldn’t direct it to the back of the net. Arsenal did not settle at all in the first nine minutes.

How good is the pre-match presentation?
7′ Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
I mentioned it a few times so it’s only right to show you how good the show was before the match.

The hosts had possession of the ball early
4′ Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
The intentions of the inner side are clear based on the opening exchanges. They have barely allowed Arsenal to touch the ball yet, which is not something Arteta would be particularly pleased with.

Teams outside St James’ Park
The two teams took to the field within a few minutes until the start of the match. The stands at St James’ Park paint a very impressive picture with flags frantically being waved by every fan in the house.

Big night for this guy
We’ll find out in the next hour if White is really fit to compete this evening. After Holding’s disastrous performance against Tottenham, it was a huge night for the 24-year-old alongside Gabriel in the visitors’ defense.
