Ramsdale has looked really shaky against Arsenal so far. I mentioned that Almiron nearly slipped the ball off his toes a few moments ago and was just called up to tackle a low cross that veered into the middle of the six-yard area. Fortunately, White was on hand to remove the danger.

Newcastle supporters no longer groan when they realize their team is playing. It doesn’t feel like a chore to take a trip to St James’ Park anymore.

Nights like this one – with many expecting to dent Arsenal’s top-four hopes – are what Magpies fans have wanted for years and there could be plenty of big football nights on the horizon in Tyneside.

White’s return at the heart of Arsenal’s defense would likely be huge, if he fits in well. His absence at Tottenham on Thursday night was one of the main reasons Arsenal suffered a comprehensive defeat.

As for tonight’s hosts, they will be delighted to see Wilson return for their last home game of the season. Fortunately, his absence through injury was not too costly due to the investment in January, but his time on the sidelines initially looked ominous. He will be in desperate need of a point in front of the beloved Newcastle fans this evening.

Like White, Callum Wilson was also passed as fit to start after it wasn’t clear if he was at the required level of fitness. Chris Wood leaves, as well as Jamal Lascelles who has been replaced by Fabian Char.

Returning to the side, Wilson wears the captain’s insignia.

After doubts over whether he would be fit, Ben White returned to Arsenal’s ranks as a match starter in place of suspended Rob Holding. Emile Smith-Rowe and Nuno Tavares are the other two players promoted to the squad to replace Gabriel Martinelli and Cedric Soares.
