Obi-Wan has a hard time, and to make matters worse, he doesn’t have a family to depend on…or does he?

Ewan McGregor is back in his best dress, Deborah Chow Obi-Wan KenobiThe six-episode mini-series fills the gaps between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Long-awaited independent Obi-Wan fleshes out his background by revealing that he hasn’t spent all of his exile trapped in Tatooine, but if you listen carefully while Obi-Wan Episode 3 With Subtitlesyou’ll hear a sentimental throwback to his shadowy younger years.

Does Obi-Wan Kenobi have a family?

When we first met Obi-Wan Kenobi (in chronological order, that is) in 1999’s The Phantom Menace, he was a 25-year-old Padawan apprentice to Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson). There’s no Karate Kids-inspired training montage, so let’s imagine his younger years under Qui-Gon’s tutelage. What is clear, is that Obi-Wan believes his master is something of a father figure.

In the third episode of Obi-Wan, McGregor’s Jedi says, “As Jedi, we are taken from our families when we are very young.” He adds, “I still have glimpses. Really flashes. My mom’s shawl. My dad’s hands. I remember a baby. … Yes, I think I have a brother. I really don’t remember him.” But this seemingly ambiguous reference finds its roots in the expanded canon of Star Wars and Owen Kenobi.

Who is Owen Kenobi?

The original Lucas trilogy likes a family twist, and when Return of the Jedi was released in 1983, the script originally revealed that Obi-Wan was Owen’s brother Lars, aka Uncle Owen, who was left in charge of Luke Skywalker on Tatooine. Although this did not make it to the final stage, the Return account still includes a line that states “[his] Brother Owen. The 1995 Premiere Limited collection of customizable Star Wars also called Owen Lars the “brother of Obi-Wan Kenobi.”

The return of the Jedi narration includes a line that states “[his] Brother Owen. “

This theme continues in the 1999 novel Jedi Apprentice: The Hidden Past, which follows the adventures of Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan before The Phantom Menace, with Owen’s other dream of Obi-Wan. Although this usually confuses continuity from the distant galaxy, George Lucas eventually tried to tighten things up. The 2002 film Attack of the Clones dubbed Owen the role of Anakin’s brother when Cliegg Lars married Shmi Skywalker. Many assumed that this was the end of Owen Kenobi’s idea. But the Disney+ series is taking things back to a strange place.

Fortunately, Abel J Peña Lonely Wolf: The Obi-Wan and Luke Story could Explain the whole thing. The short story was published on the official Star Wars website in 2015 and revealed that Obi-Wan’s brother “Owen” is actually just a vision from the future. The short story gives an origin to Obi-Wan by asserting that he was born on the planet Stewjon and then taken to the Jedi temple in Coruscant for his training.

Here, Obi-Wan believes that seeing Owen Kenobi means that he returned to Stewjon at some point to visit his family again. However, it turns out that instead of Obi-Wan having memories from his childhood, he was already seeing future With Luke and Owen at Tatooine.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Great Moments

So does Obi-Wan Kenobi have a brother?

The fact that Joel Edgerton reprises his role as Owen Lars from Attack of the Clones and Obi-Wan’s Revenge of the Sith leaves a number of options. We saw a tense confrontation between the pair, with Owen asking Obi-Wan to leave young Luke Skywalker alone. It would certainly add a different dynamic to their relationship if there was a biological connection, but it would be a reconfiguration. Besides, if Owen is revealed as Obi-Wan’s brother, the fact that the latter has no reaction to Owen’s death and Beru in New Hope will make him even cooler than Vader.

Remember that a back workout fit in the age of mythology, which is largely illegal these days, should draw a line under things. It seems likely that Obi-Wan’s mention of his brother is just one of the famous Easter eggs that the likes of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett have hidden in plain sight. There is a possibility that Obi-Wan’s younger brother might still be somewhere, but if he’s not as force sensitive as his brother, don’t expect him to show up as one of the ever-growing numbers of Jedi who have escaped in Order 66.

Then again, if Survival of Sarlacc for Boba Fett And the Admiral Throne Resurrected from Legends, who says Owen Kenobi wouldn’t be another forgotten plot point for finding a new home? Star Wars loves to expand the family tree, and if there’s anything more to it than Obi-Wan’s brother line, the prospect of him being someone we already know is a tantalizing possibility. With three episodes left, we’ll be keeping an eye on the Kenobi Dynasty.
