Mariners vs Blue Jays – Game Recap – May 17, 2022 – ESPN

TORONTO — Jose Berrios and two underers combined for six hitters, George Springer provided all-attack with a rule-laden hat-trick and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Seattle Mariners 3-0 Tuesday.

Berríos (3-2) halted their losing streak from two starts and agreed to their highest level of the season in seven games. The right-handed allowed six hits, walked twice and hit fours, lowering his ERA from 5.82 to 4.83.

“He’s got a fast ball that splits the board and a slider that’s going completely the other way,” said JB Crawford Shortstop in Seattle. “It’s kind of a bit of a mismatch between the two of you.”

The Blue Jays bowlers initially went 2-1 with a 0.76 ERA in the last four games, allowing two runs gained in 23 2/3 runs.

“We believe in each other and know we’re a great team,” Berríos said. “We have to keep getting out there, being safe in our work, and trying to work together like we’ve done so far.”

David Phelps worked eighth and Adam Semper finished on his third save in five chances as the Blue Jays won back-to-back games for the first time since April 30th and May 1st over Houston. Toronto had lost nine out of 12 before beating the Sailors on straight nights.

Logan Gilbert (4-2) allowed three runs and six strokes in seven rounds in the top season. Seattle lost for the third time in four games and fell to 7-14 on the road.

“We have to change the record, right?” Director Scott Service said. “It’s the same old song.”

The sailors were discharged for the sixth time this season.

“It looks like we can’t get that big of a hit right now,” Crawford said.

Crawford limped off the field after starting in ninth, numbing his left foot after accidentally hitting himself with his racket in his heels.

“It sure hurts, but we’re fine now,” Crawford said. “I’ll be back there tomorrow.”

Gilbert walked twice and hit nine goals, equaling his career best record on May 11 against Philadelphia.

“You couldn’t ask for anything more than the bowler you started,” Service said.

Seattle carried the rules with a one in the second half but Berrios pushed Stephen Souza Jr. to double play at the end of the first half.

“We didn’t get much against Piraeus at all,” said Servis.

Toronto came in with a rule-laden double chance in the bottom half when Springer dropped a heavy blow against Souza, diving in the right field. The ball bypassed Souza, allowing the three runners to score.

“I’m glad it fell,” Springer said. “It doesn’t matter how strong you are, sometimes you just have to put it in the right place.”

The trio was the first of the season for the Blue Jays. It was the only hit of the match for Springer, who managed to hit bats at each of the other three.

Mike Ford walked into Seattle to start eighth and left Piraeus after hitting hitter Abraham Torow’s singles. Phelps came in and retired with three straight hits.
