Google has finally revealed that it is working on the much-anticipated Google Pixel Watch that has been leaked. The software giant announced the news at the Google I/O 2022 Developer Conference earlier last week, and we also have a Google Pixel Watch page set up to explain everything you need to know about it.

The recently announced Google Pixel Watch looks identical to the one we’ve seen for a long time. The only thing different we’ve seen is the watch faces, but given that this is still a prototype and not a finished product, it’s something we can skip as the developers may still be designing it.

Google hasn’t revealed much information about the company’s first smartwatch, but it did share that it will be officially unveiled alongside the new Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro sometime in the fall. We don’t know the specifications, dimensions, screen size, how it will be shipped or any other important information that would give us a better idea of what the watch can handle.

But, 9to5Google It seems to have a source that suggests that the Google Pixel Watch may be equipped with a Samsung Exynos 9110 chip, which is built on a 10nm process. The reason why this is so important is that the chipset was fully announced in August 2018, and was released alongside the Samsung Galaxy Watch (1st generation). The same chip was also used in the Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active 2, and even the Galaxy Watch 3, which was unveiled in August 2020.

For reference, the Exynos 9110 is built on a 10nm process, has a dual-core 1.15GHz Cortex-A53 chip on the inside and a Mali T720 GPU. The Galaxy Watch 3 was equipped with 1GB of RAM, and the battery life was anywhere from one to three days thanks to the Tizen OS. The new Exynos W920 used in the Galaxy Watch 4 series has a dual-core 1.18GHz Cortex-A55 CPU, a Mali G68 GPU inside with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Samsung’s latest chip is built on the 5nm process, which is more efficient than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 4100 Plus chip built on the 12nm process.

The news of an all-new Google Pixel Watch with a four-year-old chipset is disappointing, and while we understand that Google has been working on the smartwatch for many years, we can still expect a fairly modern device. We even assumed it could power the Tensor chip, which is expressly designed for the smartwatch, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

There is also the possibility that Samsung will not license and sell its Exynos W920 chip to other manufacturers, making it difficult for Google to replace the old SoC. It’s also worth noting that even if Google can find a newer chip, it will need additional time to improve the software, which could delay the watch’s launch even more. Of course, the chip isn’t the complete package, and Google can make optimizations and performance improvements to make it somewhat compete with the Galaxy Watch 4 and, later, the Watch 5.

We also don’t have to look that far to see that the Google Tensor chip in the Pixel 6 series isn’t the most advanced and modern chip in the world, but it does deliver excellent performance. Both flagship phones are energy efficient and perform well under load, making them a great choice for Android users and those who want to make the switch. Based on this example, we are sad about the news but hope that Google can release a device that is improved and can provide an excellent overall user experience.

As it stands now, we’ll have to wait and see until we have more information ready at our disposal. We still have until at least October, and Samsung is expected to unveil the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series sometime in July or August, along with new foldable smartphones. The Galaxy Watch 5 is rumored to come with a bigger battery, and it might be the device most people decide to use, depending on what new features and features Samsung has been able to put inside it.
