The S15 series debuted last month with the vivo S15e, and now it welcomes two new models, including vivo’s first Dimensity 8100 phone. His brother is betting on the classic. Both phones have Samsung-made 120Hz AMOLED displays and fast-charging batteries.
Vivo S15 Pro
The vivo S15 Pro is powered by a Dimensity 8100, which paired with what vivo calls a “game-class” cooling system that lowers the chipset’s temperature by 1.2°C. There’s also an additional chip, the Gaming Graphics Core Pro, to help the Mali-G610 MC6 GPU run games at a stable frame rate.
The phone has a 6.56-inch AMOLED display (using Samsung E5 emissive materials) with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,376 pixels (19.8:9). It’s super bright, peaking at 1,500 nits, and promises perfect factory color calibration as well as HDR10+ support.
It is a screen with a high refresh rate, 120 Hz, suitable for gaming. Typically, touch samples operate at 300 Hz, but it can increase to 1000 Hz. Sound blasts from stereo speakers, and for better immersion, there’s an X-axis linear motor and 500 presets for haptic response. vivo built this phone with a 360-degree antenna coverage, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas for uninterrupted connectivity.
Moving on to the cameras, the vivo S15 Pro features a 50MP Sony IMX766V, which is exclusively for vivo. The 1/1.56-inch sensor with a resolution of 1.0 µm was previously used in the X70 Pro. The main camera has optical image stabilization (OIS) and f/1.9 aperture.
Next is the 12MP wide-angle camera (116-degree FOV). This unit also works as a macro camera, as it can focus close-up (2.5 cm / 1 inch). The last device on the back is a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Flip forward, there’s a 32MP (f/2.45) selfie camera.
The phone has a 4,500mAh battery with 80W fast charging support. It can reach 70% charge in 18 minutes and 100% in 35 minutes, all while keeping cool thanks to its highly efficient (98.5%) charge pumps.
The vivo online store in China is now accepting pre-orders for the vivo S15 Pro, and sales will start on May 27 (Friday next week). You can choose between blue and black. Both S15 models come with OriginOS Ocean (based on Android 12), by the way.
Vivo S15 Pro
The base configuration has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and carries a price tag of CNY 3,400 (turns out to ($505/€480/$39,000).You can upgrade to 12GB of RAM, if you have 300 RMB Extra Chinese to spend.
The vivo S15 opts for the tried-and-true Snapdragon 870 chipset, specifically the variant called “Peak Edition”. The chip is paired with VMET (in-house developed) memory technology, making it the fastest Snapdragon 870 to date, the company claims. This room also has the cooling capabilities of a steam room, which promises a corresponding decrease in temperature by 1.2 degrees.
Like the Pro, this one has a 120Hz AMOLED display, measuring 6.62 inches with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels (20:9). This one chooses the older E4 material and isn’t as bright, but it can still go up to 1,300 nits. This also supports HDR10+ and factory perfect color calibration.
The main camera on the vivo S15 features a 64MP sensor (1/1.72 inch) with f/1.9 aperture and OIS. Next to it is an 8MP ultra-wide camera with 120° FoV, although this one doesn’t work on macro shots. Anyway, the 2MP depth sensor and the 32MP selfie cameras are the same.
The phone has the same battery capacity as the Pro, 4500mAh, but the charging power has been scaled back to 66W. It can run from 0-50% in 18 minutes, although it’s not a slouch.
The Vivo S15 is also available for pre-order on the vivo web store in China with sales starting on May 27. Three memory configurations are available to choose from. The base unit has 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage and costs CNY 2,700 ($400 / €380 / INR 31,000).
