“Endeavor has been a true business for all of us, and we applaud Russell Lewis for his extraordinary achievement in dating Endeavor Morse’s coming of age through 72 hours of television viewing,” Executive Producer Damien Temer said in a statement.

Russell always knew where he wanted this series to end, and that day of regret is approaching!

We would like to thank Shawn, Roger and all members of the Endeavor family on and off screen, and to fans of the show both in the UK and abroad.

“Russell has many surprises up his sleeve for the last three films, with some familiar faces returning and new challenges to Endeavor and facing off Thursday before the final farewell!”

The dramatic television series, set in the 1960s, follows the adventures of young Endeavor Morse as he transfers to Oxford City Police after a double murder investigation.

Sean plays the titular character, a younger incarnation of the legendary Inspector Morse, best known by the late actor John Tho, who played the role from 1987 until his death in 1999.

Roger Allam will also reprise their roles in the upcoming drama, who plays DCI Fred Thursday and Anton Lesser plays CS Reginald Bright.

At the end of last season, tensions rose and Morse was effectively sidelined from a major investigation.

Endeavor is the third of the Inspector Morse trilogy series, which aired from 2012 to date. This was followed by the original film Inspector Morse (1987-2000), and a sequel to Lewis (2006-2015).

Colin Dexter’s first Morse novel was published in 1975, and in 1987 ITV began adapting books for successful drama, starring Thaw as Chief Inspector Morse with Whately as then-Sergeant Lewis. 2000 ended after 33 episodes.

Colin later revealed that he agreed to a prequel series called Endeavor — revolving around Morse as a young officer — only because it wasn’t a betrayal of Thaw.

About 13 million viewers watched the last episode of Morse code in 2000, and there was an outpouring of grief over the detective’s death.

ITV has yet to reveal an official release date for the final season of Endeavor.
