To hear actress Ellen Barkin say it, Johnny Depp was a controlling, jealous, and angry man even in the ’90s, when they dated.

“where are you going?” Barkin said Deb would ask her. “Who are you going with? What did you do last night?”

“I scratched my back once which made him very, very angry because he insisted it came from having sex with someone who wasn’t him,” Parkin added.

Barkin recalled her relationship with Depp during her previously recorded testimony that was played in a Virginia courtroom on Thursday by lawyers for Depp’s ex-wife, Amber Heard.

Heard’s lawyers are trying to undermine Depp’s defamation lawsuit. Depp says that Heard’s 2018 op-ed in the Washington Post unfairly portrayed him as a domestic abuser and cost him the lucrative Hollywood career that included the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie franchise.

Depp testified that he never hit Heard and that he was the victim of abuse by her. But Heard’s lawyers say that denial lacks credibility because he often drank and took drugs to the point of obfuscation.

During Parkin’s nomination, she testified that Depp “always drank or smoked a cigarette” or used other illegal drugs. She said she dated Depp for three to five months and described the relationship as more sexual than romantic.

Barkin co-starred with Depp in “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”. During filming, Parkin said Depp threw a bottle of wine in her direction while he was arguing with some friends in a hotel room. However, she said she did not know why he threw the bottle.

Heard’s lawyers argue that the free fall of Depp’s career was the result of his bad behavior – not Heard’s opinion piece. They gave testimony that witnessed the actor’s rise and fall from “the biggest movie star in the world” to a man struggling with drugs, money, and the ability to appear on set on time.

Tracy Jacobs, who has served as the actor’s agent for nearly 30 years, said Depp “was showing up late to consistently start nearly every movie” during their final years together.

“I was very honest with him and said, ‘You should stop doing this—it hurts,’” Jacobs said. “And I did.”

Jacobs said Depp was an extraordinary talent, but his behavior in the years before her dismissal in 2016 became increasingly unprofessional, while his drug and alcohol abuse increased, Jacobs said.

And the city went on, too,” Jacobs said. “I mean, people are talking, it’s a small community. And it made people reluctant to use it.”

Depp’s former business manager, Joel Mandel, testified in a previously taped testimony that the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films “pushed him to a whole different level of success.”

“It meant more employees,” Mandel said. “It was to buy additional property. â?????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????

Things started to change around 2010, “and it turned out over time that there were problems with alcohol and drugs,” Mandel said. “And that has translated into more distorted behavior, more stressful behavior, and more times when it was difficult to participate in the kinds of conversations I needed to do my job.”

At one point, Mandel said, Depp was spending about $100,000 a month for a doctor and staff to help him become sober. Another time, he was spending $300,000 a month on full-time employees, he said. He said there were times when Depp would spend thousands of dollars a month on prescription drugs.

“Expenditure levels have grown very, very, very large and it has required maintaining this incredibly high level of income,” Mandel said. “And when the connection was lost, the disconnection became unbearable.”

Mandel said he became very concerned about Depp’s finances in 2015, but Depp met those concerns with anger. He said the actor fired him in 2016.

Bruce Whitkin, a musician who has been friends with Depp for nearly 40 years, testified in a pre-recorded recording that Depp can get jealous in his romantic relationships.

Whitkin said this jealousy surfaced with Heard when she was off filming “or doing something he can’t be around to see what’s going on.” “I think it will work on its own.”

Whitkin said he once saw bruises on Heard’s arm when he and Depp were working on a documentary about Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards. He once saw Depp with a “fat lip.” But Whitkin said he has never seen Depp or Heard physically assault each other.

Whitkin said he tried to help Depp with his drug use and set him up with a therapist.

He would say, ‘I’ll be fine. Whitkin said, recalling a conversation. “Well, you’re not okay.”

Whitkin said Depp’s sister, Kristi Dembrowski, has always been concerned about his safety, both in terms of drug use and in general.

“I think deep down everyone was, but… the people on the payroll wouldn’t really say much,” Whitkin said. “I’m not saying they all fall into that category. But it’s a strange thing about people like him. Everyone wants something.”

Whitkin said his friendship with Depp began fading towards the end of 2017, when the actor began withdrawing.

“He wrote me this strange text saying I stabbed him in the back and cursed him,” Whitkin said. And I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’ “And he won’t explain it. And I haven’t seen him pretty much since 2018.”
